Gabrielle Bonheur Chasnel, born in 1883, grew up in the orphanage of a convent, rose in record time from a modest textile shopgirl and occasional chanteuse to a couture legend. With her numerous lovers, Chanel had not only procured the starting capital for her later fashion empire, but above all learned through observation everything she needed for succes in business: vision, discipline, strategic skill and perseverance. Coco Chanel was the embodiment of the modern career woman. Starting with hats of the belle époque, she soon opened her first fashion salon (1913). For Chanel, elegance meant nothing without comfort and simplicity. She therefore created her collections against prevailing trends. It was her, who invented the "little black dress"(1926), quilted handbags, the tweed suit and the sensational lenght of skirts, just below the knee. Chanel died in Paris 1971. Up to the present day, Chanel's philosophy has not lost even the slightest bit of its modernity.
